Nail care

Cats often scratch. It is an instinctive behaviour which cannot be changed. Your kittens can sometimes aim at your sofa or at your doorway. Cats and other pets cannot understand, of course, how expensive your furniture is, but it is possible to direct the scratching activity to appropriate areas. Provide your cat with a scratching post or a board of coconut or sisal fibre. Take the front paws of your kitten and show how to sratch the post or the board. This action will help your pet understand that the gear is meant specifically for scratching.

It is advisable to trim the sharp ends of the nails (especially of the front paws). Scissors can be obtained from pet shops and at show times. Be careful not to damage the quick of the nail. If you are afraid to trim the nails yourself, ask a veterinarian for help.
