This breed was highly prized for its sheer strength, endurance and highly successful hunting skills. Equally important is the tranquil temperament and loyalty to humans which are an intrinsic part of this breed's character.

This is because not all kittens will go on to develop the classic folds in the ears, which are the main identifying characteristic of this charming and rare breed. With this breed, the ears are folded down and forward on the head giving the impression of a barn owl, or a much loved and very huggable 'teddy bear'.

History of Siamese cats

It is said that the very earliest record of the Traditional breed of Siamese cats comes from an antique engraving discovered in Southern Russia during the late 1790's. Others say that it is clearly documented that a British Consul-General in Siam who was returning to home to the UK was presented with a Siamese cat (the country presently known as Thailand was formerly Siam) by the King of Siam as a departing gift.

Behaviour of Siamese Cats

If you are a family divided between dog lovers and cat lovers, this breed is likely to satisfy all the requirements of both. They even seem to enjoy a long 'walkies' on a secure lead with their owners.
The Siamese breed are extremely affectionate and make entertaining and often quite dominating pets. Even into old age these beautiful blue eyed creatures are still lively active and playful.
