To those legions of fans of the Maine Coon breed, at first glance the Norwegian Forest Cats may appear similar. They are both big-boned large cats that have evolved naturally to survive in harsh climates. Whilst they do have these similarities, they are very different in other ways.
Both these large breeds are super-intelligent and affectionate, adoring the attention of people. Of the two, the Norwegian Forest Cat is more demanding of affection from his human companions. The Wegie's body is medium in length and squarer in shape than a Maine Coon, and with a sweeter expression than the Maine Coon, which tends to have a feral look at times.
Norwegian Forest Cats are not as demanding of your attention as, say, a Siamese. But they to love to be stimulated both mentally and physically. They are fairly vocal and will always let you know when they need something, repeatedly at times.
