Persian Cats

Persian CatPersian cats are medium in size, have a big round head, large round eyes, short nose and small pretty ears that are set lower in comparison to other felines. Persian cats have a rather big bod with short and stout legs. Their front feet have five toes each whereas the hind ones have only four each.
These felines do not have long tails. Longhaired cats may possess two types of coat: fluffy or silk-like. It is not uncommon to see Persian cats with both types of coat.
Persians are extremely gentle and affectionate. They enjoy playing but never start games first. They tend not to jump or climb high because of their weight and short legs. Typical representatives of this breed possess a soft and silent voice, but rarely demonstrate it. From the first glance it may seem that their favourite activities are displaying their own beauty and eating. Some refer to Persians as “the most frequent guests of the living room”.

History of Persian Cats

Persian cats are believed to have originated from Angora cats, which were brought by sailors and merchants from Turkey and Iran. For many years medium-long length coat felines, now called Turkish Angoras, were the favourites of European aristocracy, all the royal court of France was potty about them.
In the 19th century, British cat breeders started crossbreeding graceful angoras with other breeds and gradually produced a breed of cobbier cats with longer and thicker hair. This type of felines eventually became the world’s most popular noble breed – the Persian Longhair.
The first Persians were considerably different from the modern ones, as can be witnessed in old photographs and pictures. Their body has become more solid, their hair has grown longer and their coat has become thicker. The utmost difference, however, is the form of the head and the muzzle: the first Persians possessed wedge-shaped heads, whereas the modern ones have more round and bigger heads.
The length of the muzzle did not change for years until recent decades, when cat breeders decided to create a Persian with a notably short muzzle. Eventually, a cat who had an absolutely unpronounced nose came into existence.
