We are going to buy our first cat. Do we need to look on internet, newspapers? Don't have money for expensive one, mixed would be ok

There are so many cats needing new homes in the UK you are sure to find one which is offered 'free to a new home'.

A good place to start looking is your local vets office. They often have noticeboards where people put notices up asking for new homes or when people are looking for a new pet.

I personally would avoid buying from a market or a pet shop, as some of them 'farm' the animals and take them away too young from their mother. This results in all kinds of problems.

Your local newspaper probably also has a column entitled PETS under the Classified Section, have a good look there. Sometimes there are people who have to move abroad for work who can't take their cat with them, who are seeking a kind new home.

You could also be pro-active yourself and put notices up in supermarkets on their Customer Notices board, as well as putting an advert (usually free) in one of the free local newspapers.

You can also look in Buy & Sell magazine, since they have a section about pets.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. Maybe tell us which part of the UK you are from and you never know, an ilikecats visitor might have the perfect puss for you ? Worth a try !

Best

Unless you want to breed from your cat, I see no reason not to adopt from a cat charitiy (like the Cats Protection League).

There are millions of stray and unwanted cats in the UK which is a very sad situation.

Our moggy came from the RSPCA about ten years ago, and is the most docile, loving, friendly and intelligent of animals.

Good luck

Joe
