Cat Owners - How Many Have Cats With Microchips?
Added by
Dom, 27 Feb 2009 09:11 We are moving abroad next year, and investigating the possibility of having our three cats microchipped so that they dont get lost.
We have had the two dogs done, but wonder if this kind of service is available for cats too ?
The dogs each had to have a microchip, rabies vac, and also their very own passport. Do the cats need to have their own passports as well does anyone know ?
We have had the cats for 8 years and my children would be devastated if we did not take them with us. We have to move to Italy (Milan) for business reasons.
So if anyone can tell me the answers to these questions I would be very grateful.
Thanks to all.

Maisy, 01 Mar 2009 09:54 We have all our four cats microchipped. It is the safest thing to do for them and as they are a part of the family, we see it as nothing more than getting the kids braces for their teeth if they need it.
It was expensive to start with but is much less so now.
I read somewhere that cats wearing collars with name tags could accidentally hang themselves when climbing trees wearing leather collars, so thought this was kinder.
I know the modern collars have elastic in them too, so that if the cat gets hooked onto a branch, then they can easily get out of the collar and not strangle.
We love our cats and we love this site. It is by far the best site for friendly accurate information we have ever found in the uk or anywhere else.
All the best
