My daughter wants to take our Maine Coone cat for a walk on a lead. We bought her a harness which she has got used to wearing around the house. And probably she is ready to go out for her first (short) walk.

The only thing is, I feel really silly walking a cat ! Does anyone else walk their cat?

Thank you

Our two cats used to follow us when we walked up to the top of the lane to close the gate on the driveway to our estate.

The two dogs would come too, but the cats would realise first that we were getting ready to go outside and would go out of the cat flap before we even opened the door.

It was a quarter of a mile walk to the gate and both cats came with us all the way there and all the way back. We did not need a lead because there was no traffic and it was our grounds anyhow.

I would not be shy about walking a beautiful cat like a Coon. (Or any other come to that).

If you are not lucky enough to have a large amount of land for your cat to follow you like the previous poster, then a lead is fine.

But be very careful where you take them. You dont want them bumping into a German Shepherd dog whose bark they cannot escape, they may panic and try to run, even slipping the collar.

Carry the cat for the first very short trip and see how they react. Do it with loving care and try to imagine how your cat must feel.
