Cats & Peacocks - Will They Kill Them?

We have a small hotel in the country, and have five cats.

I am thinking of getting peacocks as they make a beautiful show with their tails. But since they are birds, would the cats chase them ?

I know that the peacocks roost up high in trees, so maybe they could outrun a cat? Although of course cats can climb trees too.

What do you all think please ? They are expensive so dont want to make a mistake.

We stayed at a country manor guest house in southern Ireland last year. They had peacocks which were beautiful, but we talked to the owner about them and she said she wished she never got them.

They wake up very early in the morning and make lots of noise, disturbing the guests.

She did not have cats, but did have two dogs, big labradors, who did not take much notice of the birds.

The owner was trying to give the peacocks away they were so noisy, and she had tons of complaints.

Plus they pooped all over the high up window ledges and grass. Not nice if kids are going to be playing there.

Hope this helps you decide.

We have a big restaurant and guest house up here in the Lake District, my wife got a dozen peacocks to give the place the authentic feel of an old manor.

At first they were ok, but one by one the local foxes picked them off, I dont know how as they used to sleep in the trees of the orchard.

Then we started getting complaints from guests being woken up at the crack of dawn by their noise - so they had to go.

Fortunately we have a national park nearby, so we released them into that green space. I hope they are still there!
