China and Cats
Added by
Victoria, 27 Feb 2009 09:39 This is a warning. If you are a cat lover do not go to visit China. They eat cats there in the most horrific ways.
I wont go into the exact details, but the cats are all kept together in one big cage beside a fast food trolley on the street.
When a customer feels hungry, the stall holder picks up a long pair of tongs and gets a poor cat from the cage. They have long handles so the cat cannot reach the person to scratch them.
The next bit is too horrific and made me throw up on the spot.
The cat is them put into a huge pot of boiling hot oil, still alive. The Chinese believe that the more pain the animal suffers, the better the meat tastes.
I cannot believe this barbaric kind of thing goes on. But I saw it (unfortunately) with my own two eyes.
It is something I will never forget because I come from a long line of cat lovers. My mum still rescues and re-homes cats.
Sorry if this has upset anyone, but it is true, and it is something we should all know about. If only to try to stop it.

Annabelle, 27 Feb 2009 09:43 I read your post with tears running down my face. Yes, I know this is true. I have read about it, and seen it on television.
It is so barbaric it is difficult for us in the Western World to comprehend. The practice is widespread in China.
My brother (who is a butcher) regularly buys 'Chinese Rabbit' to sell in his shop as rabbit, but actually it is cat. Imported from China.
The only difference is that the kidneys are in a different place on a cat than they are on a rabbit.
So I know this is true, but what can we do about it ? They (cats) are prized there for their flavour and for their fur. It is deeply embedded into their culture.
I for one would never ever to to the Far East, I have had people come back from holidays and tell me the most horrific stories possible.
People can be so very cruel to those who depend upon us for our compassion.

Maggie, 03 Mar 2009 06:12 This is simply horrendous. I know that the latest mega virus to jump species originated at an animal market in China where they slaughter several types of animal (for food) on the same spot, resulting in virus jumping from one species, like a pig for example, to another, like a cat.
My friend told me that they think the flavour is improved if the animal is terrified. How barbaric is that?
Another horrific thing is that they like to see the animal alive, and then have it cooked in front of them, so they know it is fresh.
Anyone who loves cats should stand up and be counted on this cruel and completely inhumane treatment of these gorgeous creatures.
It is the same in Korea, although there they like fresh puppy - 6-8 weeks old, kept in cages beside the grill.
Barbaric to say the least. Sorry to say these things, but people need to know.
God bless
