We have two cats and rather than buy tins of cat food for them, they simply share smaller portions of whatever I am cooking for the family.

I have been doing this since they were tiny kittens and so they are used to it and are thriving.

There are some things they are not keen on, like carrots and lettuce, but some things they wolf down, like Shepherds Pie (made with mincemeat and potato).

Should I give them some kind of food supplement as well ?

Cats are not humans. Their digestion system and nutrition requirements are different from human.

Our cats have been raised on human food. Whatever is left over they get and they eat it voraciously.

They are ALL in EXCELLENT health and we have never had a moments problem with any of them (we have eight).

Two of them are coming up for 17 years old.

Maybe the previous poster will tell us why pet food manufacturers are allowed to put ASH and even TARMAC in their pet foods ?

How can that possibly be better for a cat than say the remains of a roast chicken mixed with veggies ?

i agree with jillie - the cwap which goes into tins for animals is disgusting. and there are ALL kinds of additives added.

just as with your family, if you cook a meal from freshly purchased or grown produce, and feed it to your pet as well as your family, you KNOW exactly what they are eating.

sadly no no no has it completely wrong !

Cats are not humans. Human food is not for cats!
