I am hoping to buy another Wedgie to keep the one I have happy and as a companion while I am at work.

Should I get a male or a female and since either will be spayed or neutered it does not really matter.

Anyone any suggestions please ?

I have two Norwegians, and they get on very well together, they never fight. They are both neutered, and one is a girl and one a boy.

I think it is better to get one of each sex, even though they are spayed, the females still retain their 'mothering instinct' in many cases. So you may find your female cat grooming and taking care of your male cat. And like all males - they LOVE it !

If you got two males, even after they are neutered, they may still both want to be 'top dog' or the Alpha male, and this can result in fighting.

We even once had two female cats, both strays that I was re-homing, who fought every single time they were in a room together. And even after being spayed.

So give it lots of thought.

Hope this helps you. Best of luck

We have a Wegie and he is adorable.

We had laminated flooring put in and now he 'skis' on his tufted paws from one end of the hall to the other. And he really enjoys it.

It is so funny to watch. He casually walks to the kitchen door (the outside door) then runs at full tilt to the threshold of the kitchen door and the hall, only to stop running when he hits the hall floor at speed and skids right up to the front door.

He does it at least four times in a row, then goes for a nap. Ski-ing is exhausting for a cat you know.

Wegies are such intelligent cats - I know most cats, even moggies are, but ours is very bright.

Best Wishes

Alison

To the poster above - if you REALLY want a Norweigan but cant afford to buy one from a breeder, look in rescue centres.

We got ours from a rescue centre and recognised what type of cat she was instantly by the very distinctive characteristics.

Alternately, go to a breeder of this type of cat (plenty of details of breeders to be found on this site) TELL them you cannot afford one but you love them.

Sometimes breeders are left with one cat from a litter and they take it into their own and add it to their (usually growing) list of pets.

Often they really would be delighted to place the animal in a loving home and not have to take it in themselves.

So you might be lucky and get a breed cat at a fraction of the price.

Give it some thought Jake - if you keep trying you are sure to find the perfect Norweigan for you.............

Good luck

To Wedgie Bear - I would say get a female. In my experience they are generally more docile and more apt to fit the role of 'under-dog' when joining your family.

Your existing cat will definitely want to remain 'top cat' and so the more subservient the new cat is the better - unless you want cat fights !

Good luck to you.
