What Type of Comb

We just got a new cat from a rescue centre, and we're going out to buy a brush and comb for her.

We only had dogs before, so I am not sure what type of comb or brush would be the best.

I think that one with teeth very close together is good in case the cat has fleas, but our cat is a long haired cat, and it might hurt her to comb her with this type of comb.

Any suggestions please ?

With long hair cats, use a soft brush first, to take out tangles. Then use one with stiffer prongs, and only after you have done these two, THEN use a very fine tooth metal comb to check for fleas and to take out all the under fluff which is loose.

If you dont do this regularly your cat will get 'hair balls' and start throwing up. They can also be dangerous to your cat (hair balls in the stomach) because if they pass down into the gut they can cause a blockage which would need an operation and could be fatal.

So spend some time with your pet and treat her to a loving cuddle and gentle grooming session.
