Which Cat Transporter Box Do You Use?

When we take our cats to the vets we use a fairly large (kind of retriever size) plastic clip together very sturdy and well made carrying box. There are plenty of slots inside, and I usually put some old newspaper i the botttom in case they panic and poop.

But there is so much space in there, even with two inside, they are quite happy and at home with it.

We keep it in the conservatory and sometimes they even sleep in it. The door is always propped open. I think that doing this has helped them not to be terrified of the vets like my sons cats are.

Every time his cats see the carrying box come out of the loft, they go hysterical. It reminds them of the vets and being 'in prison' for so long and then being examined by that huge white coat which can hurt.

I'm delighted with ours, but it is huge and VERY heavy. Only my husband can pick it up and put it in the back of the Volvo when the two are inside.

Yes - those clip together plastic boxes with the long slits are perfect for cats. They can see through them, but dont feel threatened and exposed like they must do in those strong 'chicken wire' type cages.

It must be terrifying to be sat next to something like a Doberman and be in one of those open looking cages. The cats instinct would be to run.
This would cause a huge flood of cortisol into the cats brain NOT a good thing.

So pick your transporter carefully. Often you can find them second hand in the local classifieds if you are short of cash, we got ours at a boot sale.

Long as you clean it out properly, nothing wrong with a second hand one.

If you are thinking of taking your cat on a plane, you will need to buy (or already have) a certain size of box for transport.

Each airline is different, but they mostly all say these plastic ones with slits in the sides, even for dogs.

Something to think about if anyone is considering buying one, especially new, as they can be expensive.
